Mar-12 - Oz-E-Rodders 2nd Annual Xmas Charity Event
It was a great day ..... and this is how it went down from my perspective......
Everything was in place as i waved Pat n TJ in my roadster along with Jenny n Ben goodbye as i was following shortly in the Taxi , mind was racing ... have i got everything ??? Wheres that bluddy trophy ? I couldnt find the damm thing , looked everywhere.... finally found it and off to Ballarat.
Get there to find Darren had left home at some ungodly hour and had been on site guarding the rotunda since the early hours, this was definitely Oz-E-Rodders headquarters for the day.
Finally people began arriving , some travelling long distances like the folks from Horsham to be there to support Mick's day .
I had contacted Win TV and Paul showed up to film the event for their news service on Mon Night and the guys from the Ballarat Courier who are putting together a 'good news' story for Mondays paper.
Carps , Bern n Annette arrived with Ol Bourbon Headed Charlie who was out fer a good time!!
A bit of a ruse had been planned by Munchr n I where Pat n TJ were to be 'broken down' and Pat had cracked the sads refusing to drive my roadster any further , I believe a Logie Gold Award goes to Pat and saw Mick take the helm of the roadster and arrive in style........ still none the wiser.
Mick drove in and I approached him asking what he was doing driving my car ..... his attempted explanation was halted when i handed him a copy of the 'rules of the day ' to read, with Paul from Win TV catching the moment on tape Mick read the explanation of the day which said ......
" Oz-E-Rodders Hot Rod & Kustom Club annually run a BBQ and Big Day Out to give someone less fortunate a bit of cheer during the Festive Season.
The cars here today are at the disposal of this person to ride in if he so wishes.
Oz-E-Rodders have for some weeks been raising funds for today which is free to all rodders and a round robin raffle will be held to raise even more funds.
The resulting monies will be used to buy a useful gift for the recipient,the gift will be purchased by Dave Downie , why Dave you ask ??
Because Mick Leonard , Dave is your best mate and this is your "Big Day Out"
Mick read .... we watched ... Paul filmed .... cameras clicked ...
Finally Mick looked up and uttered the immortal words .....
"YOU BASTARDS"
A spontaneous round of applause broke the peaceful lakeside and the day was on !!
The newspaper folk were blown away by the idea and interviewed us by taking shorthand , then the lady reporter (sorry i forget her name) said 'hang on, this is too good , i gotta get it right" and got out a recorder to make sure she had it all for her report , taking some 20 mins of recordings of what OER's is about and what the day meant to us and to Mick.
The Courier photographer asked if the members could assemble in the background and do an "Oh What a Feeling" moment which brought Carps running !!
An hour or so of mingling , yakking, laughter, the odd "You Bastards" ensued with Ben flogging off raffle tickets at an unprecedented rate ...... I'd bought 3 books and before Pat n Darren had the first snag sizzlin he'd sold the lot .. well done Ben !!
The lunch of Sweet Chilli, Lemon Coriander and plain Snags , Bacon n Tomato , Chicken and Avoca Burgers with mixed Salads n Coleslaw washed down with plenty of beverages was appreciated by all.
Carps made himself useful by pinstriping Mr Cool Jnr ( Travis's guitar) and Charlie ..... well Charlie did his best to keep bourbon sales flowing !!
Santa arrived in the Gold Chain Coupe driven Bling Cheque Gary ...... Go Gary Go !!!
The kids bolted .... never had they seen Santa in such a state .... after much coercing they timidly returned with Santa offering his knee to all women within range, and i might add blokes who were game as well !!
Mick awarded his trophy To Mick ( Mick Jubba) who ironicaly had posted on here that trophies were not the reason for the day and he was crusin across from Lara to help put a smile on Micks face .
Santa presented Mick with a gift , the mobile phone Frank Basile had weaved his magic to obtain ..... onya Frank!!
We went on to draw the raffle , a marathon affair with so many donations ... 46 Deluxe ( Scott) was ever so pleased he n Mrs 46 had brought 2 cars as they collected win after win .... well done.
As with all runs , after presentations all leave .... not at this one people lingered for an hour or two enjoying the day ..... Micks day !!
I must thank Darren n Pat for the great BBQ they put on ..... Carps for getting Charlie there ( if he remembers) Ben for his efforts in selling tickets , Munchr for all the chit he did in the weeks leading up to the day , all those who donated cash n goodies for the day and all those who showed up to make it a fantastic day.
Charlie was last seen in the front of the Lexus (that electric thing) floating on fluid .......
Mick i last saw wearing his hand out , shaking hands and thanking every bugger he could find and collecting the odd smooch along the way!!
Was it a good Day ?? Did we achieve our goal ?? Is it worth the effort ??
